The Elephant Festival of Jaipur takes place every year on the day before Holi. A riot of colour, noise and tradition, this cultural celebration honours elephants, the most important animal in India.

Spectators watch as a spectacular parade of female elephants are decked out by their Mahouts (riders/keepers) in intricate velvet rugs, head-plates and their ears embellished with brightly coloured scarfs. The elephants are painted with various motifs from Indian culture and tradition, with the most beautifully decorated elephant winning a prestigious prize.
